To where my soul has gone... Syria.

"اشتقت لك كثيراً... لست أنا فقط و لكن الشام كلها مشتاقة لسماع ضحكتك الجميلة"
Their letters have killed every possible moment without nostalgia in my heart. I'm ready to go home. New York is a beautiful place to live but its really just time to go home...

And actually I AM going home. Finally, the time has come! Soon after Eid, I'll be departing to Damascus (and Jordan & Lebanon). I've been living so soul-less ever since I've started planning for the trip. Working, studying, and stressing myself all for the sake of leaving without responsibilities left behind.

Regardless, my soul has been eating shawerma long before I will be. Has been walking the alleys, living the night life, meeting Tartous, threading jasmine necklaces and bracelets, having coffee to Fairouz on the veranda, been embracing loved ones... been torturing my mind restless... in somehow, a good way. I'm just ecstatic!

Images floating before my eyes as I drive, as I try to fall asleep, I'm constantly in lala land... sigh. I can't wait to run into the arms of Damascus and cry to the incantational call for prayer the first morning I arrive. I can't wait to be jet lagged and awake for crazy hours. I cant wait to see my family and friends. I truly missed them. Looking forward to the endless, sleepless nights full of conversations and laughs. I can't wait to feel safe as I walk the streets at night. I can't wait to feel home!

So, the countdown begins and....
My beloved Syria, here I come :)

Beyond excited. Now, what you read at tooteh.com stays at tooteh.com!

You stay quiet and not tell until I say so. I'm surprise going to some people, so don't ruin it. shhhh!!! :D

Tooteh... when you say where you soul has gone it makes me wonder of the person that I've grown up with. The way you talk about Syria and the mid-east makes me feel your'e a different person (from how I know you here) when you go. I don't know you in your element and it makes me feel as though I'm missing a large part of personality.

It makes me question, who are you?

(Too deep?)

Welcome Home:-)

-- Dann, you grew up with the Americanized Batoul. Theres a whole other side :)

I am indeed quite different there. And I guess thats what makes me nostalgic all the time. Its like "going back to basics". Standards and quality of life are different. My "element" and values remain what they are and in reality, this is why I remain an outcast to an extent.

I'm not going to sit and elaborate on something that wouldn't matter to you. I try to reflect who my company is. kapeesh?

-- abufares: Ahh! feels good to hear :D Thank you..

You are wrong my dear... It matters a great deal to me!! I am sure that I'll still like you and I have a feeling that I'll consider you the sweetest sister like I do now. I'm just saying that it would be nice to know you in your element, where you feel most at home, since I've never seen that side of you.

-- KJ indeed.. :)

-- Dana: Its funny, just when you think you know everything about a person, theres more to it, eh? lol

Remember the crazy Kamil party nights? Thats more like the Syrian me lol. Fun, outgoing, crazy, extra habla LOL. A lot more easy going and happy!

Says one thing, we need to take a trip to Syria together. I'll show you around and give you a really good time with some of my friends there :D what do you say?

There's nothing like going home for a visit. I came back a couple of months ago, and will be back in October inshallah. The only dowside is that I get depressed after coming back. Have fun, and enjoy Damascus. It's the most beautiful city ever.

أنا سوري: There's absolutely nothing like the feeling. But I agree, I come back feeling more out of place than before and takes me a while to get back into reality.

La twasi 7arees, hehe I will have a blast, inshAllah! You too, enjoy it :) The time we're going is PERFECT weather!

I can totally relate to what you're saying, your feelings, your nostalgia, ... And I wish I was almost on my way as well. But who knows, maybe soon.
Good luck to you over there and have fun!

I wanna go home :(

I really hope you have a blast B. I always say when I go back to visit for the first time, it cannot be during the summer. I think I will feel like a tourist and Jordan would be too crowded. I prefer to see it when it is normal...And normal is perfect for me. In the winter, it is calm and chilly/cold yet warm and intimate :)

Enjoy it.
