Rollercoaster of emotions for a NYC demonstration (GAZA)

Sunday, with below zero weather, me along with 25,000 other people demonstrated for Gaza in the streets of New York City. It began by forming an endless column of us for an hour or so and then we began to March throughout the streets of New York while being escorted by the policemen. We left nothing in our hearts. All that pressure rising inside us was once and for all spoken out.

We downsized Blomberg, put Bush (and Obama) in shame, Israelis as murderers, we asked for an end to occupation, we promised "from the river to the sea, Palestine will be free." refused even "Nickels and dimes for Israeli crimes" and blamed CNN and NY Times for all the believed lies right under their buildings... You name it, we did it!

There were many supporters that weren't Arabs, like the Israelis, Americans, the Irish, the Russian, the Spanish, I was proud... Proud at many levels to say the least.

One guy approached me as we began to march and asked if I wished to hold a flag, I felt honored and accepted it. I truly raised it with pride because I "raised for Gaza."

At prayer time, big speakers sent the prayer call out to every level of those skyscrapers around us. As if I was morphined.... The cold no longer mattered. I was in the heart of the city listening to the call for prayer and I didn't want to forget the moment. I missed hearing the prayer call so loud. I wanted to save the moment. I was hoping that moment would be one of those that come reoccurring to my mind in mini clips.

The demonstration ended after numerous speakers and blocks of marching. But New York city remained wrapped with a Koffya for the evening. Everywhere you walked you saw Arabic people wearing the Koffya. I couldn't be happier. They were all like me. I was the majority of the city for the night. The city felt more like home. I was so happy until violence broke out and people began to be maced, arrested, and injured... The New York Police Department had been fully staffed for the event and GOD, did we see every police on those streets and in every corner! I bet there could have been a policeman for each demonstrator.

The violence broke out not in one area but in many like on 35th and 42nd where I witnessed at two different times. I remained holding the flag up. The stares didn't bother me. In fact, it made me happy. I was making the statement they didn't appreciate right on their streets and they couldn't do anything about it. Nothing could have controlled the outrages number of us not even the police and NYC was in a state of shock. The streets were all closed out by police cars.

As a reaction, groups of Arabs began to form at streets and start to scream for their freedoms and rights. Mcdonald's manager asked for help to evacuate his restaurant from Arabs because well.. basically, they filled the whole place standing side by side and not buying anything. It made me smile, I have to admit lol. The sight was priceless.. They were just standing in there shoulder to shoulder.

I couldn't wait to get home and read the news. But media (to no surprise) failed to document ANY truth!!! If someone out there doesn't believe how false media is then here is the proof:

I have already mentioned the numbers of the pro-Palestinian demonstrators but to give you an idea, there was about 25-30 pro-Israeli that demonstrated against us while we formed a line before we marched.... and THIS is what the news has to say about it.

As for the violence itself, I witnessed Palestinians being maced and injured. I witnessed plenty being arrested and in fact one was ambulanced in front of my eyes lacking consciousness, whether its that or he was killed, I have no clue and I cant find out from the media! Because the media AGAIN lied HERE. Its a shame. This whole rally was mentioned as a violent act while it was a peaceful march noon to evening. Such disrespect to our opinions.

@6:50 you could hear the call for prayer too :)

Wow .. such an amazing event. I was watching the american news channels that day trying to see if they reported that, and nothing was reported except that pro-Israeli protesters came to the streets in the usa and against them came some palestinians... even now, the online video library at cnn's website has almost nothing about gaza or the conflict !!

By the way, i think the video you posted here is from an earlier demonstration because it was uploaded to YouTube on january 3rd (before the last demonstration)

Yeah, in reality there was about 25-30 Israelis and thousands of pro-Palestinians... I saw nothing on American TV but a friend of mine mentioned he saw me on ALJazeera news.

How are they able to hide such disaster I don't know. How IGNORANT are the Americans? I haven't come to the exact conclusion yet but VERY!

@video: It's okay, I attended both anyway lool. I'm in process of downloading some videos of my own to this post but its taking long... check back later.

It's not that they are ignorant it's just that all the related events are either sugar-coated/concealed. But it's about time they started looking for a less biased source do they seriously expect to have a better veiw on foreign policy, when there is an insufficient/lack of foreign footage on a suppousedly "non-biased" news channel?
I's a shame really you'd think after 9/11 these people would be interested to fine out more about foreign affairs but rage and hate seemed to have replaced curiosity..

Sidenote: mashalla at your enthusiasim and courage to stand up for whats right it sounds lame but my hat's off to ya (obviously a figurative hat not a.. I am not wearing a hat right now... but i have a hat... if i was wearing one I would... lol i explain too much and i'm getting lame so bye)

Amazing!

The sound of the Adhan raised goosebumps on my arms. Subhan Allah, all these people gathering for one cause and despite that people remain ignorant.

IT KILLS ME! About all the lies, it's bullshit, we all know that, even the big politicians know that, you've got John Stewart and Leno making jokes but implicating a lot behind them.

The problem is that people don't look further behind the source, I mean in the USA, they somehow form an opinion -a hostile one mind you- depending on whatever they see in the local newspaper or watch on FOX or CNN.

It's sickening. Anyways, I don't really expect anything from Westerners when the Arabs themselves find the solution as simple as "3aqd qemme", it's like they're trying to say, okay, okay.. we're bitches, but we're trying to suck up to our people.

Love your blog btw.

Peace,
7ala.

-- Suha: No, I insist its ignorance. The picture isn't clear and they see that but they're not willing to search for truth even though they themselves are confused of the situation.

yes, indeed.... ever since 9/11 I did see the difference in the country, we all did. lal asaf...

And thanks! *takes a bow to lamer* lool no really, I appreciate it :)

-- Halawa: Welcome to my bloggg :)

The Adhan really moved me.. imagine! in NYC! ahh, I thought I was dreaming.

You saw Stewart and Leno? I was REALLY impressed!

Your whole "hostile opinion" theory, I so agree with it.

BUT I don't agree here though. You see my expectations shift from the Westerns to the Arabs. We shouldn't compare. Arabs are being downright 7aywanat to say the least.

While I do expect the West to get the hell out and let us bring in "our own democracy" because it doesn't "seem" that their plan is working much. This is me speaking their lingo. In my own lingo, they need to get the hell out of my country wo mnkoon b KEL khair!

Wow, really, that's quite a statement you guys did there on the streets!

I am quite amazed! You guys did a wonderful job back there. What CNN and FoxNews are doing is absurd... pathetic... to try to hide the truth and feed the American people constant lies. Hopefully, one day the grip of the Israeli-pro media will be loosened and the American people would get the truth that they deserve.

keep us updated with what happens, in your blog Batoul, take video's and post them on youtube and here so everyone could see the truth on what's really going on. Most people watch youtube more than they actually watch the news..
